Jane Robbins

It was love at first touch when I first picked up a pastel after a long career as an entrepreneur, strategy consultant, and university professor of Management.I am now a full-time artist working exclusively in soft pastel, which I prize for its immediacy, luminosity, vibrancy, pure pigmentation, and magical layering qualities.

While singularly devoted to pastel, in subject matter I am open-armed: still life, figurative, and landscape all entice me as I seek to capture the energy and emotion in the everyday. But in painting as in my life, I am most drawn to the coast. My love affair with the Atlantic dunes and beaches began in childhood, and I try to communicate their primordial stillness and shifting, atmospheric light in my work. To convey the scope and nuance of this quotidian wonder is my ultimate aim and honor as an artist.

I am an elected Nonresident Artist of Salmagundi Club of New York; Signature Member of Pastel Society of America; and juried Signature Member of Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod, Arizona Pastel Painters Society; and Central Mass Pastel Society, of which I am president.

Since I began painting I’ve been honored with numerous awards in landscape, figures, and still life, including two recognitions in Pastel Journal’s Pastel 100. I exhibit in national and international pastel and all-media exhibitions, and teach pastel painting locally in Rhode Island and by invitation elsewhere. My work is in private collections throughout the country, the UK, and Europe.
