Gary Ozias
Gary Ozias grew up in Massachusetts surrounded by the arts. His father was a master engraver. He has loved drawing and painting since he was a boy. He graduated from Worcester State College in 1969 and taught high school students until his retirement in 2001. He also taught college art courses for ten years and was once honored as Instructor of the Year. Gary began painting seriously in the late 1970s and has been at it ever since, even owning and operating his own art gallery for many years. He works in a variety of media but prefers pastels. His work is representational but with an impressionistic style. Gary paints outdoors, as well as in the studio, and his subjects include landscapes, cloudscapes, wildlife, and water scenes. His plein air skills allow him to paint wherever he travels. He loves the outdoors and tries to capture the feel of the weather. If he can catch the mystery of foggy mornings, the essence of hot summer evenings, or the sunrise on new snow, he considers that a success. He feels that every painting is a new challenge and tends to keep one humble. Gary's paintings have hung in numerous juried exhibitions and have earned awards in many of them. He has also had a number of one-man gallery and museum shows. He is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, Central Mass Pastel Society, and a number of other art groups. He now resides in New Mexico with his wife Lee. |
